Getting Ready: Preparing for the Journey
There is meaningful work you can do to prepare your organization before engaging an external consultant. Building a strong foundation now will help you get more out of the partnership when the time comes.
Complete the Readiness Assessment. Understanding where your organization stands today will help you identify the right next steps and find a consultant whose expertise matches your current stage of the journey.
Read widely. There is a wealth of books, research, case studies, and guides available, including this Culture Change Roadmap. The more informed your leadership team is, the more productive your culture change work will be.
Get out into the community. Attend local events, public conversations, and forums focused on inclusion and belonging. Building relationships outside your organization enriches your perspective and your work.
Secure leadership commitment. Sustainable culture change starts at the top. Make sure your CEO and organizational leadership are genuinely engaged, visible in their support, and committed for the long term.
Analyze your workforce. Take an honest look at the demographics of your organization, including compensation data. Understanding where gaps exist is a critical first step toward meaningful change.
One important caution: if you are considering initiating culture conversations internally before bringing in a consultant, please revisit the Avoiding Pitfalls section. Without skilled facilitation, even well-intentioned conversations can deepen internal issues, potentially setting your culture change efforts back significantly.
