POWER UP SERIES Session 1 - How Racism Formed in the US

Portland Means Progress and TechTown present the POWER UP Series. This is the first in the series.

Join Portland Means Progress and TechTown Portland as we embark on the POWER UP SERIES, designed for staff at all levels and at all organizations: from part-time staff to leadership! Attendees have to be actively interested and committed to racial equity.

This first session in the POWER UP SERIES will be about the formation of racism in the United States. This will be a very broad overview, showing examples of how race and racism were formed throughout the history of the US. The purpose is to understand how white supremacy was designed and how it currently operates in order to dismantle it. Participants should note that this conversation will include triggering content and examples of disturbing policies which have been enacted against people of color.
